Fuca, Aulson Win in Singles in Bentley's Defeat to NYIT

Haverhill, Mass. – Senior Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester Essex) and sophomore Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) posted wins in singles, but Bentley men's tennis dropped a 5-2 non-conference match to New York Tech on Saturday at the Cedardale Athletic Club.

Bentley saw its five match winning streak snapped, which dropped its overall record to 7-4 on the season. NYIT, ranked 3rd in the East Region, improved to 4-4 on the season.

Fuca earned a 7-5, 6-2 win over Diego Espiniella in the No. 3 match. Aulson claimed his 5th singles win in a row, when he defeated Maxton Cook in three sets in No. 4. Cook won the first set 6-2, but Aulson rallied and won the last two sets, 6-4, 7-5.

NYIT won the doubles point with wins in No. 1 and No. 3, but a win in No. 2 by Fuca and Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) prevented a sweep. They defeated Nicolas Castaldo and Yago Granda 6-3.

Next up for Bentley is the start of its Northeast-10 schedule, which gets underway on Friday at home against Merrimack.
