Bentley Battles but Falls to Saint Thomas Aquinas, 4-3

Lakeland, Fla. – In a match between two teams ranked in the East Region, No. 5 Saint Thomas Aquinas slipped past No. 6 Bentley 4-3 on Tuesday in Florida.

The Falcons won the doubles point with victories in the No. 2 and 3 matches, but STAC was able to take four of six in singles to emerge with the match, to improve to 7-0 on the season.

In the doubles matches, Mauricio Fadul (Miami, Fla.) and Alex Novins (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley)  won the No. 2 match over Alvaro Barranco and Enej Hasicevic, 6-4. While in No. 3, it was Jordan Soifer (Stamford, Conn.) and Tawan Rattaseri (Bangkok, Thailand) over Luke Taplin and Mitchell Harrison, 6-4.

In the singles matches, Fadul won his second match of the day when he defeated Valentin Baranyi 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 in No. 4. Senior Kendall Au (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) took a 6-7, 6-1, 10-1 decision over Hasicevic in No. 6.

Two other singles matches went three sets, Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) in No. 1 and Novins in No. 5.

Bentley (4-6) will play its final spring break trip match on Friday against Ithaca at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
