Bonte Wins Twice but Bentley Falls to Brandeis 5-2

Waltham, Mass.- Freshman Max Bonte (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Stephens) won in both singles and doubles, but the Bentley men's tennis team fell to Brandeis 5-2 on Thursday afternoon.

The Judges improved to 2-0 on the season, having beaten Division I Merrimack last week.

Bonte and senior Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) won the No. 1 doubles match, 6-4 over Brandeis' Jeff Chen and Adam Tzeng.

Brandeis though won the No. 2 and 3 matches in doubles to take the point and a 1-0 lead into singles. Bentley's pairings in those doubles matches were Mauricio Fadul (Miami, Fla.) and Alex Novins (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) in No. 2 and senior Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) and freshman Sergio Blanco (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) in No. 3.

In singles Bonte defeated Tzeng in three sets, in the No. 2 match. The two competitors split the first two sets 6-4, Bonte won the first set before Tzeng took the second to force a decisive third. In the final set, Bonte claimed the match with a 10-6 victory.

The other match to go three sets was in No. 4, contested between Bentley's Jordan Soifer (Stamford, Conn./Westhill) and Brandeis' Colt Tegtmeier. After he dropped the first set 6-4, Soifer forced a third set by winning the second set 6-3. But Tegtmeier outlasted him in the final set, 10-5.

Bentley is set to return to NE10 play on Saturday when they visit Southern New Hampshire.
