Box Score WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University picked up a 1-0 victory over Assumption on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference men's soccer matchup.
Junior Patrick McMahon (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake) scored the goal in the 26th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Wood (Westford, Mass./Worcester Academy) helped the Falcons keep a clean sheet in his first career start.
Senior center back Hunter Marshall (Harwinton, Conn./Avon Old Farms) played a big part in the shutout. He cleared with his head an Assumption shot that was headed for the goal off the line and out of play in the 60th minute to keep the score 1-0.
McMahon, who scored for the second straight game, put the Falcons in front 1-0 a little over past the halfway point of the first half. The goal was setup by senior Ronan Fitzpatrick (Coventry, Conn./East Catholic) playing a ball into the box from the right wing.
Junior Eric Makhatadze (Clifton Park, N.Y.) got a shot off at the edge of the six yard box that was blocked. But McMahon was there to pounce on the rebound and fire in a shot for the goal.
Bentley outshot the Greyhounds 18-8 on the day and had nine shots on goal to Assumption's three.
The Falcons improved to 2-2 on the season with the win, while Assumption dropped to 0-2.
Next up for the Falcons is their first NE10 match of the season. That will be on Saturday at Saint Anselm.
