First-Place Finishes by Lawes & Modhagala Lead Bentley at SNHU Twilight Invitational

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Sophomore Alex Lawes (Brick, N.J./Brick Township HS) and graduate student Sirish Modhagala (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington HS) posted first-place finishes Friday as the Bentley University men's outdoor track and field team launched its outdoor season at the Southern New Hampshire Twilight Invitational Friday.

Bentley went 1-2-3 in the 400 meter hurdles with Lawes leading the way in 56.96 seconds, good for fifth on the Northeast-10 Conference performance list. Junior Evan Bean (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa HS) was second with his 58.17 a personal best and freshman John Jennings (North Reading, Mass./Nortj Reading HS) was third in 1:01.80.

Modhagala ran to victory in the 3000 meter steeplechase, winning the three-competitor event by about 12 seconds with a 10:55.36.

Sophomore Sam Capobianco (North Reading, Mass./Phillips Andover School) was the runner-up in the 5000 with his 15:33.93 putting him 1.20 seconds back of Franklin Pierce's Ted Darrah.

In the mile, senior Brice Tolan (Abington, Mass./Abington HS) was third of 29 in 4:23.79. Junior Matthew Chicko (North Andover, Mass./North Andover HS) finished in 4:32.93 to place ninth.

Three Falcons were in the top ten among 27 competitors in the 100. Senior Jonathan Solimine (Braintree, Mass./Braintree HS) was sixth (wind-aided 11.35), sophomore Isaiah Decias (Ozone Park, N.Y./Hudson Catholic HS) was eighth (wind-aided 11.43) and junior Ryan Dennehy (Andover, Mass./Andover HS) was ninth (11.46).

In the discus, freshman Casey O'Connor (North Reading, Mass./North Reading HS) was fifth of 22 (122'10") and classmate Daimein Garcia (Providence, R.I./St. George's School) was ninth (118'8").

Bentley had four of the top five finishers in the javelin with all establishing new personal bests. Freshman Parker Rush (Rumford, R.I./LaSalle Academy) was second (166'11"), Garcia third (166'6"), junior Nick Luther (Groton, Conn./Marine Science Magnet School) fourth (160'0") and junior Nick Dadasis (Norfolk/King Philip Regional HS) fifth (152'5").

Junior Cole Duval (Tolland, Mass./Mount Everest HS) ran the 10,000 Saturday morning during the Tufts Snowflake Classic and finished fifth among 14 runners in 33:23.42.

This coming week, Bentley will compete in meets hosted by Merrimack College, Fitchburg State and California-San Diego.
