FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Bentley scored three power play goals, two by
Kellan Hjartarson, in a 6-4 victory over Sacred Heart to complete a series sweep.
Bentley fell behind early on a goal by Sacred Heart's Felix Trudeau 2:38 into the game.
But the Falcons quickly erased that deficit as
A.J. Hodges scored their first extra-man goal at 7:40.
Hjartarson's first power play tally gave Bentley a 2-1 lead when he redirected a pass from
Ethan Leyh in front of the net at 15:25.
Freshman
Oliver Salo then notched his first NCAA goal at 18:06 off a scrum in front of the net to make it 3-1.
After Salo's goal the teams traded tallies back and forth. Sacred Heart got to within one goal of the Falcons three times, but each team they responded with a goal of their own.
Leading 3-2 in the 2
nd period, freshman
Oskar Bakkevig lit the lamp for the third time this weekend at the 6:42 mark.
Late in the period, Hjartarson notched his second of the night. A drive from the point by
Garrett Horsager was saved by SHU goalie Ajeet Gundarah, but Hjartarson was there in front of the net to score off the rebound and make the score 5-3.
Sacred Heart's Matt Guerra scored an extra-attacker goal with 2:19 remaining in the third period to cut Bentley's lead to 5-4.
But Bentley snuffed out any hope of a Pioneers rally when
Nick Bochen scored an empty-net goal with 1:31 left to seal the win at 6-4.
The Falcons improved to 3-1 in Atlantic Hockey games and 4-3-1 overall.
They next host RIT on Friday to begin a six-game home stand.
