WALTHAM, Mass. – Five different players scored as Bentley rolled past RIT 5-0 on Friday in the series opener between the two teams for its third straight victory.
Bentely got off to a fast start with two goals in the opening 2:38 for an early 2-0 advantage.
Defenseman
Sam Duerr scored the first goal with a shot from below the left faceoff circle at 1:25.
Oskar Bakkevig retrieved the puck near the blue line and skated back into the offensive zone down the right wing, and fed Duerr for a quick shot to the far post for the goal.
Kellan Hjartarson then gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead just 1:13 later with his fourth goal of the season. Off a faceoff win by
Ethan Leyh in the offensive zone,
Nick Bochen fired a shot on goal that Hjartarson tipped in through traffic.
Early in the second period, senior defenseman
Tucker Hodgson made it 3-0 for the Falcons.
Oliver Salo and
Chase Davis kept possession in the offensive zone before Hodgson won a battle for the puck along the boards below the net. He wheeled back to the right faceoff circle to create some shooting space and ripped a shot past RIT's goalie for his first tally of the year.
Bakkevig made it 4-0 with snap shot from the right faceoff dot at 15:27 of the 2
nd. That was his fifth goal of the year and fourth in the last three games.
Davis scored at 7:24 of the third period to make it 5-0 with a shot from behind the goal line that deflected in.
Bentley outshot the Tigers 39-19 on the night and recorded its first shutout of the season. For Falcons goalie
Connor Hasley its his fourth career shutout.
They will go for the series sweep on Saturday at 4:05 pm.
