Bentley Knocks Off #4 Maine Behind Hasley’s 43 saves

PORTLAND, Maine – Connor Hasley made a career high 43 saves to help Bentley knock off #4 ranked Maine 4-2 on Sunday.

The Black Bears were ranked 4th in the most recent USCHO poll, which gives the Falcons their first ever win over a top five ranked team in program history.

Hasley turned away 18 shots in the first period, eight in the second frame and 17 in the third period to help close out the victory. He helped the Falcons penalty kill go 5-6 on the night against a Maine power play that ranks in the top five in the nation.

The Falcons took a 1-0 lead just 1:42 into the game on Oliver Salo's second goal of the season.

After a Maine turnover in their own end a shot by Oskar Bakkevig hit the crossbar, but Salo was there on the doorstep to score off the rebound.

Bentley then faced some adversity later in the first period when they were called for a five minute major penalty, but they killed off the power play without allowing a goal.

In the second period a power play goal by Ethan Leyh gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead when he tipped in a shot by Nick Bochen that came from the blue line. The goal at the 3:51 mark was Leyh's seventh of the season.

Leading by one goal late in the second period, the Falcons extended their lead to 3-1 when Sam Duerr lit the lamp at the 17:51 mark.

Tanner Main got the play started with a pass out of the defensive zone to Ryan Upson down the right wing into Bentley's offensive end. Upson then centered a pass to Duerr trailing the play, who roofed a wrist shot past Albin Boija for the goal, his sixth of the year.

The Black Bears cut into Bentley's lead with a shorthanded goal by Harrison Scott at 11:36 of the third period.

The Falcons though clamped down the rest of the game to secure the win.

Boija was pulled for the extra attacker with 2:19 left, but Jimmy Doyle scored an empty net goal with 10 seconds remaining to seal it.

Bentley snapped Maine's five game winning streak and the Falcons improved their record to 11-5-2 overall.
