5 Score in Doubles as Bentley Shuts Down No. 24 Assumption for 5th Straight Road Win

WORCESTER, Mass. – Bentley University's road win streak hit five and five players scored in double figures as the Falcons shut down No. 24 Assumption University, 85-64, in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball Saturday afternoon at Laska Gymnasium.

Leading the Falcons on offense were sophomore forward Cooper Farrall (Valparaiso, Ind./Culver Academies) with 16 points and six-seven grad student Ivan Misic (Toronto, Ont.) with 15.

Bentley, 6-2 in its last eight, improved to 8-6 overall and 5-3 NE10, good for a tie for fourth place. The Falcons shot nearly 55 percent overall, the seventh time this season they've hit at least half of their attempts from the field. Inside the arc, coach Jay Lawson's team connected at a 65 percent clip and totaled 48 paint points, 14 more than Assumption.

Assumption, which had an 11-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday and entered the game with the top-scoring offense in the conference, was held to a season-low point total and a .393 field goal percentage. The Greyhounds previous three losses this season were by a total of seven points.

After the game was tied at 22, Bentley used runs of 10-2 and 6-0 to build an eight-point advantage, 38-30 with 2:50 left in the first half. Five different players had baskets during the first spurt and the scoring during the second was also spread out.

On top 42-38 at intermission, Bentley opened the second by making five of six shots to build a 12-point lead, 54-42. Both Latham and Misic tallied five during that span of two-and-a-half minutes.

A 21-1 explosion during the middle seven minutes of the second half resulted in a commanding 79-50 lead for the visitors, with just under eight minutes left. Junior guard Luke Britton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs HS) had the first seven and Misic followed with a pair of three-pointers.

At that juncture, coach Jay Lawson's team had made 16 of 23 second-half shots and was shooting .615 for the game.

Farrall came within a single rebound of a fifth double-double and Misic made five of his six shots, including three of four from deep.

Latham and junior guard Cash McClure (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook HS) both followed with 12, with McClure adding nine rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block. Junior forward Chase Clarke (Bloomfield, N.J./Newark Academy) added ten points on five-of-six shooting off the bench, and Britton finished with nine points.

Bentley, which has won eight straight in Laska Gym, outrebounded the Greyhounds (11-4, 6-2 NE10) by ten, 38-28, and that domination was more impressive after a slow start. Assumption had a 14-9 edge in the first 12 minutes and it was 29-14 Falcons the rest of the way.

The Falcons will also be on the road Tuesday evening when they play at Franklin Pierce.
