SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Bentley hammered AIC 6-1 on the road on Tuesday night to snap a three-game skid. Grad student
Artem Buzoverya scored two goals to lead the attack.
The Falcons improved to 11-7-1 in Atlantic Hockey (13-10-2 overall) and scored six goals for the third time this season. The other two were against Army West Point on Oct. 25 and Sacred Heart on Nov. 2.
Bentley took a 1-0 lead at 6:44 of the opening period when Buzoverya scored on a rebound in front of the net, off a shot from defenseman
Tucker Hodgson that came from the blue line.
The Yellow Jackets tied it up 1:38 later on a goal by Josh Barnes, but at the 11:51 mark Bentley went back in front a goal by
Arlo Merritt.
Ryan Upson played a pass into the offensive zone to
Ryan Mansfield on the left faceoff circle to open things up. Mansfield then spotted Merritt streaking down the middle and centered a pass that Merritt one-timed for the goal.
Leading 2-1 in the 2
nd period, Bentley exploded for three goals in just 3:25.
Mansfield scored first, jamming home the rebound off a shot by Merritt that was saved. Just 25 seconds later
Kellan Hjartarson netted his seventh goal of the season to make it 4-1.
Then at the 12:24 mark,
Nick Bochen and
Ethan Leyh setup
Stephen Castagna for a power play goal with a shot from the left faceoff circle for his third of the year and a 5-1 lead.
Buzoverya then notched his second of the night at 16:27 of the second period to finish the scoring.
Connor Hasley made 25 saves in goal to earn his 11
th win of the season.
Bentley will next be in action on Saturday at Princeton for the first of two games.
