Bentley Drops Series Finale at Niagara, 4-2

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Niagara scored three goals in the third period to take a 4-2 victory over Bentley in the series finale on Saturday night.

Bentley led 2-1 going into the final period on goals by defensemen Sam Duerr and Nick Bochen but the Purple Eagles scored three unanswered to take the win.

Duerr's 7th goal of the season at 7:11 of the 1st period gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead. A shot from the blue line beat Niagara's goalie Pierce Charleson with a screen in front by Artem Buzoverya.

The game remained 1-0 for the rest of the opening period and deep into the second until Bochen scored with 43 seconds left. The goal came off a rebound in front of the net after an initial shot by Ryan Mansfield was blocked and a second attempt by Chase Davis was saved.

The goal was Bochen's sixth of the year.

Niagara though cut into the lead with just two seconds left in the period on a goal by Trevor Hoskin.

4:56 into the third period a goal by Grayson Dietrich tied it 2-2.

The game stayed tied until the under three-minute mark when the Purple Eagles went ahead on a goal by Jay Ahearn, followed by an empty netter by Giebs Prohorenkovs with 36 seconds remaining.

Bentley ended the game with a 45-30 advantage in shots.

The Falcons (11-7-2, 9-4-1 AHA) next head to Air Force.
