NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Niagara scored three goals in the third period to take a 4-2 victory over Bentley in the series finale on Saturday night.
Bentley led 2-1 going into the final period on goals by defensemen
Sam Duerr and
Nick Bochen but the Purple Eagles scored three unanswered to take the win.
Duerr's 7
th goal of the season at 7:11 of the 1
st period gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead. A shot from the blue line beat Niagara's goalie Pierce Charleson with a screen in front by
Artem Buzoverya.
The game remained 1-0 for the rest of the opening period and deep into the second until Bochen scored with 43 seconds left. The goal came off a rebound in front of the net after an initial shot by
Ryan Mansfield was blocked and a second attempt by
Chase Davis was saved.
The goal was Bochen's sixth of the year.
Niagara though cut into the lead with just two seconds left in the period on a goal by Trevor Hoskin.
4:56 into the third period a goal by Grayson Dietrich tied it 2-2.
The game stayed tied until the under three-minute mark when the Purple Eagles went ahead on a goal by Jay Ahearn, followed by an empty netter by Giebs Prohorenkovs with 36 seconds remaining.
Bentley ended the game with a 45-30 advantage in shots.
The Falcons (11-7-2, 9-4-1 AHA) next head to Air Force.
