GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Sophia Poehlein led all players with 21 kills as the Bentley volleyball team extended its winning streak to nine matches with a 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-13, 25-23) win at Adelphi Saturday afternoon. In the process, Bentley snapped the Panthers' 11-match winning streak. The Falcons (13-4, 3-0 NE10) remain undefeated in the region.
Bentley and Adelphi (13-7, 2-1 NE1) were the two top teams in the Northeast 10 standings entering Saturday's contest. Adelphi's Macarty McQueen entered the weekend as the conference leader in kills per set, but the Falcons limited McQueen to a .130 hitting percentage as she committed 10 errors.
Poehlein had only four attack errors while hitting .327 in the win. It was her second time eclipsing 20 kills this season. Poehlein had a career-high 23 kills against Post (Sept. 25).
Lulu Pavan added 14 kills while attacking at a .344 clip at Adelphi.
Five Falcons came away with double-digit kills, led by
Erica Borzone with 16.
Tory Vitko had 13 digs to go with her 36 assists, marking Vitko's seventh double-double of the season.
Elizabeth Blinn and
Elena Coban finished with five blocks, each.
Bentley has another NE10 road match Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Franklin Pierce.
