MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Stan DeMartinis hit two home runs and
Zach Eigenbrod and
Connor Gileau combined on a shutout as Bentley defeated Bridgeport 5-0 on Saturday in Myrtle Beach.
DeMartinis went 3-4 with solo homers in the 4
th and 6
th innings. Freshman
David VanderZouwen hit a solo homer in the 4
th and had an RBI single in the 8
th.
Eigenbrod, a freshman, earned the win in his first career start. He struck out six and allowed just two hits in five innings of work.
Connor Gileau earned the save with four shutout innings.
The senior from Berlin, CT struck out four and allowed just one hit over the final four innings.
The solo homers by DeMartinis and VanderZouwen gave Bentley a 2-0 lead in the 4
th inning. DeMartinis then homered for the fourth time this season in the 6
th frame to make it 3-0.
The Falcons tacked on two runs in the 8
th on the single by VanderZouwen and a sac fly by
Jack Matthews.
Bentley (4-2) concludes its Myrtle Beach trip on Sunday when they face Mercy at 9:00 am.
