WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley scored five unanswered goals to rally from 2-0 down for a 5-2 victory over Army West Point on Tuesday night.
The Falcons fell behind 1-0 after 4:46 of the first period and it became a 2-0 deficit when the Black Knights scored at 2:34 mark of the second period.
Chase Davis got the rally started with a goal at the 9:45 mark of the second period. A shot by
Ethan Leyh that was blocked got the goal sequence started, as the puck then ricocheted to Davis on the doorstep for the goal.
Seven minutes later
Ryan Mansfield scored the first of two straight to tie the game and then put the Falcons in front.
His first goal came after sharp passing by defensemen
Sam Duerr and
Colton Cameron. The second pass by Cameron found Mansfield open backdoor for the goal to tie the game at the 16:59 mark.
Then just 1:01 into the third period Bentley went ahead on Mansfield's second goal.
A defensive zone faceoff win by
Arlo Merritt led to the Falcons breaking down the other end of the ice.
Tanner Main fed
Ryan Upson into the offensive zone and Upson spotted Mansfield streaking down the right wing. After receiving the pass Mansfield got off a quick shot just above the faceoff dot for the goal.
Bentley then went ahead 4-2 on
Stephen Castagna's fourth goal of the season at the 4:54 mark.
Nik Armstrong-Kingkade helped make the goal happen by winning a battle for the puck behind the net. He then found Castagna open in front of the net, who one-timed the pass to light the lamp for his fourth goal of the season.
Leyh added an empty-net goal with 2:03 left to seal the win at 5-2.
Bentley improved to 14-12-2 overall and 12-7-1 in Atlantic Hockey with the win, which snapped Army's six-game winning streak.
The Falcons are back in action on Friday night when they host Robert Morris to open a weekend series.
