Pappas hits grand slam in 12-8 win at Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Nick Pappas belted a grand slam, and Stan DeMartinis III totaled three hits to lead the Bentley baseball team to a 12-8 win at Lynn Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons were in a 4-3 deficit after five innings, but the momentum flipped in the sixth inning. Tommy Goonan and Parker Coleman began the stanza with consecutive walks. Goonan was thrown out at third on a fielder's choice, but Brendan Sencaj reached base on an error by the Lynn shortstop, loading the bases for Pappas.

With one swing of the bat, Pappas drove in four runs to give Bentley a 7-4 lead. It was his first home run of the season after hitting five long balls in 2024.

The Falcons' bats stayed active in the ninth inning. Jared Berardino led off with a walk, and DeMartinis followed with a double that put two runners in scoring position. Jack Matthews lifted a sac fly to score Berardino. Rene Nunez, who came in to pinch run for Martinis, advance to third base on the sacrifice.

Goonan was then hit by a pitch, and Coleman drew a walk to load the bases. Tommy Bolton delivered an RBI single to right-center field, pushing Bentley's lead to 9-4. The bases remained loaded, but not for long. Sencaj delivered a three-run base hit, giving the Falcons 12 runs for the game.

DeMartinis finished the game 3-for-5 while hitting fifth in the lineup. Bentley's one-through-four hitters in the lineup each came away with two hits: Bolton, Sencaj, Pappas, and Berardino.

Bentley aims for a perfect Florida trip when it takes on Palm Beach Atlantic Sunday, Feb. 9, at 12 p.m.
