WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Brendan Sencaj went 3-for-5 with a home run and a double, but the Bentley baseball team lost at Palm Beach Atlantic, 6-3, Sunday afternoon. It was Bentley's final game of a three-game trip to Florida to open the 2025 season.
Sencaj's first home run of the season was a solo shot in the first inning, giving Bentley a 1-0 lead. Sencaj hit eight home runs last year on his way to earning All-Northeast-10 Third Team and Rookie Team honors.
Bentley didn't score again until the fifth inning. With
Rene Nunez on second base, and
Tommy Bolton on first, Sencaj ripped a double down the left-field line. Nunez rounded third and touched home plate to tie the game, 2-2.
The Sailfish answered right back in the bottom of the fifth, however, when a two-out Bentley error allowed the home team to take a 3-2 lead. That lead grew to 6-2 heading into the ninth inning.
Jake Maydak and
David Vanderzouwen hit consecutive one-out singles in the top of the ninth. Two batters later, Sencaj notched his third hit of the game to load the bases with two outs.
Nick Pappas followed with an RBI single to center field, but the Bentley rally – and the game – ended in the following at-bat.
Bolton matched Sencaj with a three-hit performance, and Pappas went 2-fot-4 at the plate.
Bentley's next games are in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Feb. 21-23.
