Box Score 2 WALTHAM, Mass. –
Riley Piromalli tossed a complete game with seven strikeouts to help Bentley to a 4-2, extra innings victory over St. Thomas Aquinas as part of its opening day doubleheader in Florida.
Piromalli scattered seven hits over eight innings to earn the win.
Kim Saunders delivered a clutch two run homer in the top of the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and drive in
Jess Morrison.
Bentley took a 1-0 lead in the 2
nd inning on a run scoring bunt by
Ella Bunovsky.
St. Thomas Aquinas scored twice in the 3
rd inning to take a 2-1 lead, but Bentley tied it back at 2-2 in the 6
th inning.
Katie Welch drove in
Bella Burke with an RBI single.
Piromalli retired St. Thomas Aquinas in order in the 6
th inning and got out of a jam in the 7
th inning before finishing the game in the 8
th inning.
The Spartans won the second game of the doubleheader 7-3.
Jordan Krause and Saunders each went 2-3 with an RBI and Welch also had an RBI.
On Monday, the Falcons will play Findlay at 9:00 am and Minnesota-Duluth at 2:00 pm on the second day of its Florida trip.
