Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Bentley sweeps the weekend with 3-1 win at Air Force

USAFA, Colo. – Despite trailing by a goal after the first period, the Bentley hockey team stormed back for a 3-1 Atlantic Hockey win at Air Force Saturday night. The road Falcons sweep the weekend against the home Falcons, with Bentley also winning Friday's game by a score of 5-1.

The Bentley (12-6-2, 11-1-2 AHA) offense got off to a slow start Saturday. Its first shot on goal came eight minutes into the game, when Air Force (10-10-2, 6-7-1 AHA) already had a 1-0 lead.

Air Force had a good opportunity to add to its one-goal lead when it went on the power play with one minute left in the first period. However, Bentley goalie Lukas Swedin turned away three shots in the final minute of the opening period, keeping Bentley's deficit to just 1-0.

Bentley opened the second period by killing that power play, and quickly thereafter it scored the equalizer. Bentley added an extra skater during a delayed penalty against Air Force. Michael Mesic skated down the left side with the puck, and his quick shot beat the Air Force goalie.

Less than one minute later, Bentley took a 2-1 lead. Off a blocked shot on defense, Bentley quickly corralled the puck for a three-on-two opportunity. Mesic fired a shot from the right side, and the rebound came directly to Jake Black in the middle of the ice. With the goalie caught out of position, Black delivered the go-ahead score into an empty goal.

Black scored his second goal of the game when Air Force pulled its goalie late in the third period. Overall this weekend, Black totaled three goals and two assists.

Swedin totaled 29 saves to improve his season record to 8-2-1. His goals-against average ranked top-12 in NCAA DI entering this weekend, and he lowered his average to 1.80 following the two games at Air Force.

Bentley's next game is closer to when it plays at Sacred Heart Friday, Jan. 16. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
