WALTHAM, Mass. – Julia Elie finished with a career-high five blocks, and
Kayana Armbrister recorded her second double-double of the season to lead the No. 21 Bentley women's basketball team to a 67-49 win over Adelphi Saturday afternoon.
In addition to her defensive prowess, Elie totaled 12 points and seven rebounds for Bentley (13-2, 9-0 NE10). Armbrister scored 20 points while shooting 8-for-12 from the floor. She also pulled down 10 rebounds. Armbrister's first double-double was at Saint Anselm (Jan. 7).
Niya Morgen also scored in double figures with 11 points.
Bentley's defense held the Panthers (9-7, 3-6 NE10) to just a 27.3 field-goal percentage. Adelphi made only one shot from the floor in the second quarter, and it connected on only two shots from the floor in the fourth quarter.
The Falcons had to shake off a sluggish start offensively to remain unbeaten in the NE10. Through the game's first four minutes, Bentley missed five of its first six shot attempts. The offense got clicking when Armbrister hit a 3-pointer to give the Falcons a 9-7 lead. It was the start of 15-2 Bentley run that carried over into the second quarter. The Falcons went into halftime with a 38-14 lead.
Bentley's largest lead of the game was 27 points, 45-18, which came 2:31 into the second half.
With Saturday's win, Bentley completes the first half of the conference season. The Falcons hit the road to meet Saint Michael's for the second time this season Tuesday, Jan. 27. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
