COLCHESTER, Vt. – Julia Elie came away with her second double-double of the season, and
Niya Morgen led all players in scoring as the No. 21 Bentley women's basketball team beat Saint Michael's, 62-48, on the road Tuesday evening.
Elie totaled 12 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 6-for-8 from the floor. She added two blocks in three assists in the winning effort for Bentley (14-2, 10-0 NE10). Elie's first double-double of the season was against Holy Family (Dec. 21).
Morgen shot 8-for-18 from the floor, including 5-for-10 from 3-point range, on her way to scoring 21 points against Saint Michael's (9-9, 4-6 NE10). It was Morgen's third game this season with at least 20 points. Two of those games were against Saint Michael's. Morgen scored a season-high 25 points in Bentley's home win over the Purple Knights (Dec. 6).
The Falcons ran way with the game in the second quarter, outscoring Saint Michael's 21-10 in the 10-minute period. It allowed Bentley to take a 37-21 lead into halftime.
Saint Michael's scored the first points of the second quarter, cutting Bentley's lead down to just one possession, 16-13. The Falcons then accounted for six unanswered points. Morgen hit a 3-pointer, and
Kayana Armbrister converted an old fashion three-point play.
Bentley's lead was 24-18 when it started a 9-0 run. Morgen accounted seven points on that run, including a 3-pointer.
The Falcons led by at least 13 points for the entire second half.
Bentley returns to the road to take on Southern Connecticut Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1:30 p.m.
