Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Armbrister records first double-double in Bentley win at Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. – It's déjà vu all over again. For the second consecutive game, the No. 24 Bentley women's basketball team trailed by two points at halftime. And for the second consecutive game, the Falcons made the appropriate halftime adjustments for a big third quarter and a victory. Bentley beat Saint Anselm, 76-67, in Manchester Wednesday night.

The Falcons (8-2, 4-0 NE10) trailed by a score of 34-32 at the midway point. Coming out of the locker room, the Bentley poured in 20 points in the third quarter.

In similar fashion Sunday (Jan. 4), Bentley trailed Southern Connecticut by two points at halftime. The Falcons erupted for 27 points in the third quarter on their way to a 75-62 win against the Owls.

Kayana Armbrister recorded the first double-double of her Bentley career at Saint Anselm (6-2, 1-2 NE10). She totaled 24 points and 10 rebounds. Armbrister shot 9-for-16 from the floor, and a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range. Armbrister was just one 3-point make away from setting the program record for most made 3-pointers without a miss.

Niya Morgen scored 15 points against the Hawks (6-2, 1-2 NE10), and Cassidy Yeomans finished with 11.

The game was tied, 22-22, early in the second quarter. Over the following four minutes, the Hawks went on a 10-2 run to take a 32-24 lead. Saint Anselm continued to hold an eight-point lead, 34-26, with 3:03 left in the first half. Morgen hit a jumper to cut the deficit to six points, and then Armbrister came up with a steal and fastbreak layup to make it a 34-30 game. The first half closed with Armbrister hitting a jump shot just before the buzzer.

Midway through the third quarter, the Hawks hit a 3-pointer to push their lead to 44-40. Armbrister answered by draining a 3-pointer, and following a defensive stop, Yeomans hit a trey to give Bentley a 46-44 lead. Bentley closed out the quarter with a 52-47 advantage.

The Falcon lead nearly reached double digits midway through the fourth quarter when Armbrister hit from distance, increasing the lead to 64-55. Bentley's lead was no worse than five points for the rest of the game.

The Falcons return home Saturday, Jan. 10, to host Franklin Pierce at 1:30 p.m.
