WORCESTER, Mass. – In the final seconds of regulation,
Parker Woodring caught a four-yard touchdown pass from
Luke Warnock, but the Bentley football team's two-point conversion was unsuccessful as Assumption held on for a 29-27 win Saturday afternoon. The contest was a rematch of the 2025 Northeast 10 title game.
Bentley (2-2, 0-1 NE10) had the ball trailing by one point, 22-21, midway through the fourth quarter. However, the Greyhounds (3-2, 2-0 NE10) came up with an interception that was downed at Bentley's 30-yard line. Assumption capitalized on the short field, needing five plays to reach the end zone for a 29-21 lead.
The Falcons' ensuing drive started on their own 25-yard line with four minutes on the clock.
Warnock completed a 16-yard pass to
Mason Andrade, and he found
Cooper Marcum for another 12 yards. Assumption didn't do itself any favors when it was flagged for unnecessary roughness. The penalty put Bentley on the Greyhounds' 30-yard line.
A couple of plays later, Warnock hit
Nate Day for a 20-yard gain. The very next play was Woodring's touchdown grab with just under 40 seconds left in regulation. Bentley attempted a pass for the two-point conversion, but the attempt fell incomplete.
The Falcons held a halftime lead for the fourth consecutive game.
Isaiah Osgood threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to Marcum with 33 seconds left in the second quarter, giving Bentley a 21-14 lead at the midway point.
Marcum had two touchdown catches in the game, marking his third multi-touchdown game of the season. He has scored in four consecutive games, totaling seven touchdown grabs during that stretch. Marcum totaled 90 receiving yards on six catches against Assumption.
Will Klenk recorded his first-career touchdown grab for Bentley in the first half.
Jaxon Pereira led Bentley's defensive efforts with a couple of interceptions, and
David Brown Jr. also picked off a pass. Freshman
Braeden Smith had a season-high 16 tackles, and junior
Jake Fredericks came away with a career-high 10 tackles.
The Falcons have a bye week before hosting Saint Anselm Saturday, Oct. 17.
