Falcons to celebrate senior class before taking on Saint Michael's

Elena Coban
WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley volleyball team will celebrate its five seniors when the Falcons host Saint Michael's Saturday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m.

3x East Regional Champions
Each of Bentley's seniors have won three NCAA East Regional titles, appearing in the NCAA Championship Quarterfinals in 2023, 2024 (NCAA Semifinal), and 2025. Leading up the start of Saturday's match, the Falcons celebrate those seniors and their loved ones: Elena Coban, Lauren Hallas, Sasha Luzina, Elliet Manning, Sofia Zingariello.

The streaks
Bentley enters this weekend with 17 consecutive wins – a streak that started Sept. 5 in Colorado. Bentley has also won 43 consecutive contests against East Region opponents, dating back to the 2024 season.

All aces
Bentley served up 23 aces during its 3-1 win over Franklin Pierce at home earlier this week (Oct. 27).  It is the second-most aces in a four-set match by an NCAA DII team this season. That total is also the most by a Bentley team in at least 15 years. Tory Vitko delivered a career-high eight aces in the win. Heidi Anderson holds the Bentley record for most service aces in a match (11, vs. Saint Anselm, 1993).

Poehlein hits 1K
Junior Sophia Poehlein recently became the 10th Falcon in program history to achieve 1,000 career kills. She reached the milestone during the first set of Bentley's sweep at Saint Anselm (Oct. 24). The last Falcon to reach 1,000 kills was Ingrid Murphy '24. Poehlein's 3.29 kills per set this season ranks third in the NE10.

Vitko for the fourth time
Tory Vitko was named the NE10 Setter of the Week (Oct. 26) for the fourth time this season. She earned the honor seven times in 2025, on her way to winning NE10 Setter of the Year. Vitko notched her sixth double-double of the season during Bentley's three-set win at Saint Anselm (Oct. 24). She totaled 28 assists and 14 digs – the latter of which ties a season high for the junior. Vitko also tallied 32 assists during the Falcons' 3-0 home win over Assumption (Oct. 20). For the season, Vitko ranks second in the NE10 with 9.32 assists per set.

Rising to the occasion
Bentley has been thoroughly dominant against NE10 opponents. In conference-only matches, the Falcons lead the NE10 in kills per set (18.12), hitting percentage (.267), opponent hitting percentage (.115), and service aces (3.20). Sophia Poehlein is the only NE10 player averaging more than 4.00 kills per set (4.13) during conference matches. In such matches, Tory Vitko leads the field in assists per set (9.68), and Yasmin Tonon is tops in aces per set (0.75).

Scouting Saint Michael's (4-15, 1-5 NE10)
The Purple Knights' lone conference win so far this season is against Southern New Hampshire in five sets (Oct. 20). The team ranks last in the NE10 for kills per set (8.45), and it's allowing the most service aces per set (3.32). Rory Tower is the conference's No. 2 leader in blocks per set (1.17).
