BOCA RATON, Fla. – David VanderZouwen collected two hits and drove in three runs, but the Bentley baseball team lost at Lynn, 10-4, Saturday evening.
Although the Falcons (1-1) scored three runs in the first two innings, they also surrendered nine runs in those opening frames.
Bentley scored the first run of the game with two outs in the top of the first.
Nick Pappas hit an infield single, and
Stan DeMartinis III followed by drawing a walk.
Jared Berardino then ripped a base hit that allowed Pappas to round third and touch home plate.
The top of the second inning started with consecutive singles by
Jimmy Mitchell and
Brian Hersh. The inning's third batter – VanderZouwen – roped a double through the left side that allowed both runners to score.
The sophomore took advantage of another opportunity in the eighth inning. Following a walk to Berardino and a single by
Jake Maydak, VanderZouwen hit a single back up the middle that allowed Berardino to score.
VanderZouwen wasn't the only Falcon with multiple hits. Maydak went 2-for-5 at the plate, and Hersh went 2-for-4. Berardino finished the game 1-for-3 with a couple of walks.
The Falcons conclude their season-opening Florida trip at Palm Beach Atlantic Sunday, Feb. 8, at 12 p.m.
