WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Stan DeMartinis III took sole possession of the conference lead in homers as the Bentley baseball team finished its spring break trip with a 3-2 win over Palm Beach Atlantic Wednesday.
DeMartinis clubbed his seventh home run of the season in the third inning, giving Bentley a 2-0 lead.
Curt Heath scored on the home run after reaching base with a double.
DeMartinis was previously tied with teammate
Jared Berardino for the NE10 lead in home runs.Â
Palm Beach Atlantic tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third, and the score remained 2-2 heading into the ninth inning.
Tommy Bolton led off the top of the ninth inning by drawing a walk. He moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, and then a passed ball allowed Bolton to take third.
Nick Pappas drew a walk to put runners on the corners. When DeMartinis fouled out, Pappas aggressively tagged up and darted for second. The play forced Palm Beach Atlantic into an error, allowing Bolton to score the winning run.
Bolton and Heath both finished with two hits in the game.
Caleb Allen improved to 2-0 by pitching five shutout innings out of the bullpen.
Bentley begins its Northeast 10 season with a doubleheader at Franklin Pierce Saturday, March 14.
