PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Stan DeMartinis III launched his conference-leading 13
th home run of the season as the No. 19/30 Bentley baseball team clinched a series win at Pace with a 10-6 victory Sunday afternoon.
Bentley (18-7, 10-2 NE10) opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the third inning.
Tommy Bolton led off with a walk, moved into scoring position on a groundout, and he came in to score on a single hit by DeMartinis. In the very next at-bat,
Brendan Sencaj hit his seventh home run of the season.
Pace (10-12, 5-7 NE10) rallied for four runs in the home half of the third inning, but the Falcons tied the game in the fourth inning when Bolton laid down a squeeze bunt that scored
Jimmy Mitchell from third base.
DeMartinis broke the 4-4 tie by crushing a two-run homer in the fifth inning.
Nick Pappas was on base after he got hit by a pitch.
The Falcons held a 7-6 lead after eight innings, but they tacked on three more runs in the ninth. DeMartinis led off with a single, Mitchell drew a walk, and
Tommy Goonan followed with a single that scored DeMartinis. After
Jake Maydak drew a walk to load the bases, Bolton delivered a two-run single.
DeMartinis finished the game 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. Bolton went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBI while batting leadoff. Pappas and
Brian Hersh both went 2-for-4 in the win.
Even McCarthy earned the win after allowing just two earned runs through six innings out of the bullpen.
Bentley returns home Tuesday, Marc 31, to host Assumption for a game at 3:30 p.m.
