Top seeded Falcons host Mercyhurst in AHA Quarterfinals starting Friday night

WALTHAM, Mass. – The #1 seed in the Atlantic Hockey playoffs, the Falcons hockey team will host the #10 seed Mercyhurst in a best-of-three quarterfinal series at Bentley Arena starting on Friday night.

Game Notes

The Falcons clinched the AHA regular season championship on February 20 with a 4-3 win at RIT to secure the #1 seed and home-ice advantage. They finished the regular season at 18-11-5 and 16-6-4 in the AHA for 53 points to finish five points ahead of second place Sacred Heart.

Mercyhurst won their first round game over the #7 seed Canisius on Tuesday night, 5-2.

The regular season series saw Bentley sweep the Lakers on the road by scores of 3-1 and 7-2. Owen Goodbrand scored two goals in the game one win and goaltender Nicholas Bevilacqua made 22 saves. The following night, seven different players lit the lamp and Lukas Swedin made 29 saves.

This will be Mercyhurst's first visit to Waltham since January 19-20, 2024. Bentley is unbeaten in the last seven games against the Lakers (6-0-1).

Bentley and Mercyhurst have played in the postseason in four different seasons. The most recent encounter was the 2015 quarterfinals.

The Falcons will enter the postseason leading the conference in fewest goals allowed per game at 2.41. That number is tied for 10th nationally. They also have the league's top power play percentage (21.8) and second ranked penalty kill percentage (83.5).

Two Falcons are in the league's top-10 in points at the start of the playoffs, with Jake Black tied for second (35) and Stephen Castagna tied for 10th (28). Black is third in the league in goals (16). He and Kellan Hjartarson are tied for tied for eighth in assists (19).
