BOCA RATON, Fla. – Jared Berardino homered twice, and
David VanderZouwen also went yard, as the Bentley baseball team beat Post, 8-6, Saturday afternoon. It was the Falcons' fourth win in their last five games.
Berardino and VanderZouwen both cleared the fences in the third inning. VanderZouwen's long ball led off the stanza. It was his third homer of the season. Two batters later, Berardino launched a solo shot to tie the game, 2-2. The bats kept rolling in the third inning when
Nick Pappas and Stan DeMartinis hit consecutive singles. Pappas came in to score on a double by
Curt Heath, giving Bentley a 3-2 lead.
The Eagles tied the game, 3-3, in the bottom of the third, but Bentley went back in front in the sixth. Heath led off with a double, and he scored on a base hit by
Brian Hersh.
Berardino's second home run of the game led off the seventh inning, giving Bentley a small cushion at 5-3. Heath added an RBI single that same inning, as he was a perfect 4-for-4 in the game.
With the two home run game, Berardino overtook his teammate, DeMartinis for the Northeast 10 lead in home runs. Berardino has six homers, and DeMartinis has five.
As a team, Bentley's 19 homers by far lead the NE10. Southern Connecticut has the closest total with eight long balls. Â
