WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley snapped #5 ranked Pace's 10-game winning streak with a 13-11 victory over the Setters on Senior Day at Yetten Field.
Goals in the fourth quarter by
Nick Berglund at the 7:55 mark and
Tate Fitzmaurice at 6:58 gave Bentley a 13-10 lead.
Bentley persevered the three goal lead for the next five-plus minutes, but a late goal by the Setters with 1:35 remaining made it a 13-11 game.
Dante D'Amico won the ensuing faceoff, secured the ground ball and Bentley was able to run out the remaining time for the victory.
The Falcons trailed 6-2 at the end of the first quarter but used a 6-0 run to surge ahead 8-6.
Beckett Mehlhorn scored two goals during the run and the other four goals were scored by four different players.
Pace finally broke the run, and a stretch of more than 14 minutes without a goal, with 1:04 left in the quarter to make the score 8-7 in Bentley's favor at halftime.
Brendan Varnerin and
Jake Calabro scored for the Falcons early in the third quarter for a 10-7 lead, before a 2-0 run by the Setters made it 10-9 with 7:42 left in the third frame.
A man-up goal by Berglund with 1:51 left in the quarter made it 11-9 for Bentley going into the final quarter.
Pace scored 42 seconds into the fourth to make it a one goal game again, but that was their last goal until the final minute.
D'Amico went 16-26 in the faceoff circle and had a game-high nine ground balls.
Bentley won its third straight and improved to 6-5 on the season and 4-2 NE10. The next game is on Tuesday night at home against Assumption.
