Overtime goal fells #20 Bentley in 12-11 defeat to #18 Assumption

WALTHAM, Mass. – Assumption's Ben McHugh scored 49 seconds into overtime to give the Greyhounds a 12-11 victory over Bentley on Tuesday night.

A back-and-forth game saw eight lead changes, with four in the final 15-plus minutes of the game alone.

Bentley took an 11-10 lead with 2:11 left in regulation on a goal by Cooper Kraus. After a faceoff win by Dante D'Amico, Assumption was able to get the ball back with 39 seconds left. A timeout followed, and the tying goal by Boomer Staunton with 18 ticks left sent the game to overtime at 11-11.

A goal by Brady Glass with 1:21 left in the third frame tied the contest 8-8. From that point the teams alternated goals in the fourth quarter. The skies opening up midway through the fourth quarter, turning a pleasant evening into a downpour, added to the drama.

Bentley overcame a 7-4 deficit in the third quarter with a 3-0 run that spanned five minutes midway through the quarter. The goals were tallied by Beckett Mehlhorn, Tate Fitzmaurice and Charlie David.

Bentley's leading scorer on the night was Glass with a hat trick. Kyle Piersiak had a game high three caused turnovers.

The Falcons fell to 6-6 on the season and 4-3 in the Northeast 10. They close out the regular season on Saturday at Saint Michael's.
