Falcons take game two from AIC 14-0 to win series

American International 4, Bentley 3 (7 innings)

In the first contest of the day AIC held off a late Bentley rally in a seven inning game.

Trailing 4-1 in the top of the seventh the Falcons threatened to tie the game before AIC escaped with the tying run on third.

With one out and runners on second and third, an RBI groundout by Jake Maydak scored Jimmy Mitchell to make it a 4-2 game. After a walk to Tommy Bolton, a sacrifice fly by Berardino scored Chase Mendela to make it 4-3. However, AIC was able to get the third out to escape with the victory.

In the fourth inning, Stan DeMartinis III clubbed his 17th home run of the season. That puts him just two away from tying Mike Hill's program records for homers in a single season (19) and in a career at Bentley (43).

Starting pitcher Evan McCarthy threw a gem to earn his third win of the season. He struck out nine, walked none and allowed just four hits in a complete game victory.

The Falcons exploded for 10 runs in the seventh inning to turn a 4-0 lead into 14-0. Berardino had two hits in the inning, including a three-run homer, his 13th of the season.

McCarthy struck out three Yellow Jackets in the bottom of the seventh to end the game via the mercy rule.

Nick Pappas went yard in the first inning, a two-run shot to give the Falcons an early 2-0 lead. That was his eighth of the season.

Curt Heath also had a big game by going 3-4 with two RBI. Bolton and Pappas each had two hits.

The 3-1 series win gives Bentley a 21-6 NE10 record and 29-11 overall. They play again on Tuesday with a single game at Assumption. First pitch is 3:30 pm.
