Berardino's 12th inning home run lifts No. 16/18 Falcons past Hawks

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Five different Falcons hit a home run, including Jared Berardino's game-winning blast, as the No. 16/18 Bentley baseball team outlasted Saint Anselm, 17-13, in 12 innings for the second game of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon. Saint Anselm won the first game Sunday, 12-4.

The Falcons (32-13, 24-8 NE10) rallied for four runs in the top of the 12th to win the final game of the series. Jimmy Mitchell was hit by a pitch to lead off the late rally, and Tommy Bolton followed by drawing a walk. The next batter – Berardino – belted a 2-0 offering over the left-field fence to give Bentley a 16-13 lead. It was Berardino's 15th home run of the season.

Bentley added one more run for good measure when Nick Pappas hit a double, and he came in to score on a double by Brendan Sencaj.

It wasn't Sencaj's only big hit in extra innings. He belted a solo home run to lead off the 11th inning – his 12th home run of the season.

Bentley was in a 9-6 hole after seven innings, but it rallied for six runs in the eighth. The rally began with consecutive singles by Sencaj and Curt Heath. Both Falcons trotted home when Jake Maydak belted his fourth home run of the season. Tommy Goonan immediately followed suit, making it back-to-back home runs for Bentley. It was the second home run of the season for Goonan.

Later in the eight inning, Nick Pappas launched a two-run homer – his 10th of the year - to put Bentley out in front, 12-9. However, the Hawks (20-19, 18-13 NE10) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to force extra innings.

Berardino finished the game 5-for-8 with four RBI. Pappas went 4-for-7 and he scored four times, while Sencaj finished the game 4-for-6 with three runs and three RBI.

In the first game Sunday, Heath went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Pappas and Goonan both finished 2-for-4.

Bentley hosts Adelphi for the final games of the regular season, May 1-2.
