WALTHAM, Mass. –
Owen MacKinnon scored in the 33
rd minute and goalkeeper
Alessandro Bizzini made a late save on an Assumption penalty kick to give Bentley a 1-0 win on Wednesday.
It's the second straight, 1-nil win for the Falcons to begin NE10 play. MacKinnon was also the goal scorer in Saturday's 1-0 victory at Adelphi in the first NE10 match of the season.
MacKinnon's goal came off a cross by
Kevi Sulollari from the left wing that was sent into the penalty area. MacKinnon was first to the ball and fired home his shot from a tight angle to the near post for the goal.
Gamaliel Ortiz Rivas had the secondary assist.
The Falcons maintained the 1-0 lead for the next 50-plus minutes of gametime, but the lead hung in the balance when Assumption's Cody Holbert was awarded a PK in the 84
th minute.
The reigning NE10 Player of the Week and the conference's leading goal scorer was chosen to take the PK, but Bizzini denied him with a tremendous diving save to his left.
Bentley then saw out the remaining seven minutes to improve to 4-2-2 overall and 2-0 NE10. They play again on Saturday when they host AIC at 12:00 pm on Alumni Day.
