WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley baseball team pushed its winning streak to six games with non-conference doubleheader wins over St. Michael's at Waltham High School's Yetten Field Saturday. Hunter Smith totaled six hits and four steals between the two games.

Bentley 12, St. Michael's 8

Smith went 4-6 with two RBI as Bentley defeated Saint Michael's 12-8 in game one of a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday.

The Falcons continued to stay hot at the plate and scored double-digit runs for the fourth straight game.

Trailing 7-4 in the 6th inning, third baseman Steve Rizzuto doubled down the third baseline to drive in Smith and Joe Cacciatore to make it a 7-6 game. One batter later Jackson Walonis singled to score Cory Bright to tie the game 7-7.

Still tied in the bottom of the 8th, Bentley scored five to take a 12-7 lead.

Rizzuto's second RBI double of the game drove in Rene Nunez for an 8-7 lead. Two straight run scoring hits by Walonis and Brian Lindsay pushed the lead to 10-7.

Shortstop Tommy Bolton scored Lindsay from third with a sacrifice bunt and Smith's fourth hit of the game drove in Brendan Sencaj to make the score 12-7.

Harper Flint struck out three Purple Knights in the top of the ninth to close out the win. That capped a four inning, seven strike out performance for Flint out of the bullpen to earn his second victory of the season.

Bentley 9, St. Michael's 3 (5 inn.)

Five different Falcons put forth multi-hit efforts in a rain-shortened victory over the Purple Knights.

Smith, Tim Zupkus, Bright, Patrick Purcell, and Brendan Sencaj each came away with two base hits. Sencaj hit a couple of triples, and Smith had a three-base knock.

Steve Hardiman pitched all five innings to earn the win. He struck out five and allowed just three hits.

The Purple Knights jumped out to a 3-0 in the first inning, and Bentley's bats didn't get going until the third. That's when the Falcons rallied for four runs, including a two-run double by Purcell. Zupkus and Sencaj also drove in a run, each, during the rally.

The Falcons needed only two hits to post five runs in the fifth inning. One of those five hits was an RBI triple by Sencaj.

The Falcons and Purple Knights are slated for another non-conference doubleheader at Yetten Field Sunday, March 3, starting at 12 p.m.
