Grizzaffi totals six hits during doubleheader split against New Haven

WALTHAM, Mass. – Jordan Krause and Sabrina Grizzaffi both hit home runs as the Bentley softball team split a Northeast-10 doubleheader at home against New Haven Friday afternoon.

 

Bentley 8, New Haven 0 (5 inn.)

Krause launched her 13th career home run, and Riley Piromalli earned another complete game win during an 8-0 victory over the Chargers in the first game Friday.

Krause, who is Bentley's all-time home run leader, belted a solo shot in the second inning to give Bentley a 2-0 lead. Hailey Feiler and Katie Welch followed with consecutive singles, and Grizzaffi cleared the bases with a tiple to right field.

In the the fourth inning, Kylee Amato hit an RBI triple, and then she came in to score on a wild pitch.

The game ended when Bentley scored twice more in the fifth inning. Welch hit a one-out triple, and she came home on a single by Grizzaffi.

Following a single by Morgan Fraitzl, Gabriella Longo ended the game (run rule) with a base hit that scored Grizzaffi.

Piromalli allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out five batters during her eighth complete game of the season.

Grizzaffi went 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Amato, Welch, and Longo each collected two hits.

 

Bentley 7, New Haven 10

Just as it did in the first game, Bentley totaled 12 hits against New Haven in the second game. However, the Chargers rallied for five total runs in the final two innings to beat the Falcons, 10-7.

Bentley struck first with two runs in the first inning. Amato and Samantha Hess led off with consecutive singles to put runners on the corners. The duo then pulled off a double steal for the first run of the game. Hess came in to score on a single by Feiler.

Feiler hit another RBI single to score Hess in the third inning, pushing the lead to 3-0. But in the top of the next stanza, New Haven rallied for five runs.

Bentley quickly tied the game, 5-5. In the bottom of the fourth. Amato hit a sac fly to plate Ava Lanza, and Krause hit an RBI single to score Ella Bunovsky.

The Falcons reclaimed the lead, 6-5, in the fifth inning. Grizzaffi led off with a double, and she moved up to third base on a passed ball. A groundout by Welch allowed Grizzaffi to easily score.

The Chargers plated three runs in the sixth, and two more in the seventh.

Girzzaffi hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. She finished the second game 3-for-4 at the plate. Hess, Feiler, and Jacqueline Cupoli each came away with two hits.

Bentley next hosts Southern Connecticut for a conference doubleheader Sunday, April 7, at 12 p.m.
