WALTHAM, Mass. – On the heels of a historic season, the Bentley baseball team opens its 2025 campaign in Florida this weekend. The new season begins at Barry Friday, Feb. 7, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. Bentley remains in The Sunshine State for games at Lynn (Feb. 8) and Palm Beach Atlantic (Feb. 9).
Last year's Falcons posted a record of 29-19, marking the most single-season wins in program history.
Brendan Sencaj,
Gabe White,
Nick Pappas, and
Pat Heber are among the leading returners from the historic 2024 team.
Sencaj, a sophomore outfielder, was named to both the All-Northeast-10 Third Team and All-NE10 Rookie Team. He hit eight home runs, drove in 31 and had 43 hits in his freshman season. Sencaj's on-base percentage was .399, and his slugging percentage .541.
White was also named to the All-NE10 Rookie Team last year. Through 11 appearances, 10 of which were out of the bullpen, White put up a 2.12 ERA and had a team-leading four saves.
Pappas is a senior infielder who frequently forced his way into the lineup with his bat. The Boston native belted five homers in 84 at-bats, hitting for a .357 batting average with a .619 slugging percentage. Among all Falcons with at least 50 at-bats last year, Pappas ranked second in both hitting and slugging.
Heber is a junior southpaw whose peripheral numbers in 2024 point to potential All-NE10 bid this spring. Heber finished last season with a 5.20 ERA in his 13 appearances (all starts), but he held opposing batters to a lowly .227 batting average, while striking out 56 through 71.0 innings.
Heber had a slow start to his 2024 season, but he posted a 4.18 ERA through his final nine starts. During that stretch, there were three starts when he pitched at least seven innings while allowing no more than two earned runs.
Steve Hardiman, also a junior southpaw, is poised to remain a fixture in the starting rotation for Bentley. He made 11 starts, threw two complete games, and finished the season with a 4.70 ERA last year.
The versatile
Tommy Bolton will likely see more action atop the Bentley lineup this spring. Through his first two seasons at Bentley (77 games), Bolton is hitting .294 with a .411 on-base percentage.
Following the 2025 opening weekend, Bentley takes a weekend off from competing before making a second trip south. This time, the Falcons go to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for games against St. Thomas Aquinas (Feb. 21), Bridgeport (Feb. 22), and Mercy (Feb. 23).
The 2025 home opener is a doubleheader against Post, March 1. The NE10 slate begins at home against Assumption, March 15.
Bentley's captains are Heber, Pappas,
Stan DeMartinis III, and
Harper Flint.Â
