Starting pitchers Heber, Glupe lead Bentley to wins over Post

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. – Starting pitchers Pat Heber and Ryan Glupe combined to allow just one run in 10 innings to lead the Bentley baseball team to doubleheader wins against Post Saturday afternoon. The games were originally scheduled to be played in Waltham, but poor weather moved the contests to Heritage Financial Park in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.

Bentley 7, Post 4 (10 inn.)

Making his third start of the season, Heber allowed just one earned run in his six innings on the hill. He allowed two walks and five hits, and struck out three.

Bentley trailed 3-1 after six innings, but the Falcons put together a two-out rally to take a one-run lead in the seven frame. With Tommy Bolton on base and two outs, Jared Berardino singled to left field to put runners on the corners for Stan DeMartini III.

The senior slugger took advantage of the opportunity with an RBI single that cut the deficit to 3-2. The next batter, Nick Pappas, ripped a two-run triple to put Bentley ahead, 3-2.

Post evened the scored in the seventh inning, but the Falcons had another three-run rally left in the bag.

Pappas and Curt Heath began the 10th inning with consecutive walks. Pappas came in to score on a single hit by Patrick Purcell,  while Heath moved to third base. Jack Matthews drew a walk to load the bases, and Bolton delivered a two-run single to push the lead to 7-4.

Joey Sangiuolo earned his first Bentley win by pitching two shutout innings out of the bullpen.

Bentley 3, Post 2 (6 inn.)

Glupe worked four shutout innings in his third start of the season, and Bentley bats totaled five doubles in only six innings for the second win of the day.

Glupe allowed three hits, a walk, and struck out three. He lowered his season ERA to 2.13, and opposing batters are hitting just .187 against him so far this season. In the shortened game, Glupe got credit for the win, pushing his 2025 record to 2-0. Harper Flint notched his first save of the season after striking out two batters in a scoreless bottom of the sixth.

Bentley took a 1-0 lead when DeMartinis ripped an RBI double that scored Brendan Sencaj from second base. Sencaj initially reached base on an error by the shortstop.

DeMartinis led off the third inning with a walk, and he moved to third base on a double hit by Heath. A base hit by Purcell allowed DeMartinis to easily score the Falcons' second run of the game. Later in that third inning, Heath came in to score on a balk.

Bentley and Post are scheduled to meet again Tuesday, March 4, in Waltham.
