Box Score 2 MANCHESTER, N.H. – Stan DeMartinis III homered twice, and
Tommy Bolton delivered late-game heroics as the Bentley baseball team won both games of a doubleheader at Southern New Hampshire Sunday.
Â
Bentley 11, SNHU 10
Bolton hit a clutch two-run single in the eighth inning as part of his three-hit, three-RBI game in Bentley's 11-10 win over Southern New Hampshire.
The Falcons and Penmen entered the eighth inning knotted up, 9-9, but Bentley put its leadoff hitter on base to start the top of the eighth.
Jimmy Mitchell struck out to open the frame, but the pitch got away from the catcher Mitchell ended up on first base.
Another SNHU miscue put two runners on base with nobody out.
Tommy Goonan put down a sacrifice bunt, but an error by the pitcher aided Bentley's rally. Both runners moved up a base with
Jack Matthews put down a sacrifice bunt. Bolton – the next batter – delivered a single to centerfield to plate both Mitchell and Goonan for an 11-9 lead.
Bentley's win wouldn't have been possible with its seven-run fifth inning. The huge rally was started by Mitchell's leadoff double. Consecutive singles by Matthews and Bolton allowed Mitchell to score, and the bases were loaded followed by a
Brendan Sencaj base hit.
Jake Maydak drove in two runs when he singled through the right side, and
Nick Pappas followed with a sac fly that scored Sancaj for a 6-3 lead. Jared Berrardino followed by a drawing a walk, and
Stan DeMartinis III cleared the bases by belting a three-run homer.

DeMartinis crushed his second home run of the day - and eighth of the season - in the eighth inning. His two-run shot pushed Bentley's lead to 11-3, and the Falcons went on to win the series finale by a score of 11-6.

The game was tied up, 1-1, when Mitchell began the sixth by drawing a walk. Goonan was hit by a pitch, and both runners landed in scoring position following a sacrifice bunt by Matthews.
Bolton drew a walk to load the bases, and Sencaj smacked a single back up the middle to break the tie with two runs. Bentley reloaded the bases when Maydak earned a free pass, and two more runs came in on a base hit by
Nick Pappas.
Mitchell's second at-bat of the inning ended by earning a walk with the bases loaded, and Goonan followed with an RBI single.
Marc Cedrone logged a quality start – six innings and three earned runs – for his second victory of the season.
Sencaj, Maydak, Pappas, DeMartinis, and Goonan finished the game with two hits, each.
Bentley returns home Saturday, April 12, for a non-conference doubleheader against the College of Staten Island.
