WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley is back at home this weekend for the first time in three weeks to face the Princeton Tigers at Bentley Arena in a non-conference series. Friday's game gets underway at 7:00 pm and Saturday is at 6:00 pm.
Game Notes
The Falcons were at Sacred Heart last weekend and took two points from the series after a shootout win on Saturday. The game ended in a 4-4 tie and Bentley won the shootout 2-0 after goals by
Dylan Cook and
Michael Mesic. Bentley dropped Friday's game by a 3-2 score.
The results have Bentley's Atlantic Hockey record standing at 11-2-3 for 38 points. That has them in first place with an eight-point lead over Sacred Heart and an 11-point lead over RIT with the same amount of games played. Holy Cross has 29 points and has two games in-hand which they will play this weekend at Robert Morris.
Overall, the Falcons are 12-7-3.
Princeton enters the weekend at 11-7 overall and 7-5 in the ECAC for 22 points, which has them in fourth place, six points behind first place Quinnipiac. Last weekend they were swept on the road, losing to Cornell 2-1 and Colgate 2-0.
Both Bentley and Princeton received votes in this week's USCHO poll. Bentley received 11 votes and the Tigers 10.
This is a rematch of last season's series that took place at Hobey Baker Rink on Princeton's campus, which was the first meeting between the two programs since 2006. It was a tightly played series that the Tigers swept, by scores of 3-1 and 1-0 (ot).
The all-time series is 1-3-1 in favor of Princeton. Bentley's win came in the 2006-07 season.
Bentley's
Jake Black and
Michael Mesic are both on scoring streaks entering the weekend.
Black, who was the AHA Player of the Week on Jan. 13, is on a five-game points streak with five goals and six assists. Mesic has a goal in four straight games and has seven points total (4g, 3a) in the last four games.
Mesic now leads the team in both points (22) and assists (14) and is second in goals (8). Black leads the team with nine goals and he is second in both assists (11) and points (20).
In the AHA, Mesic is fifth in points and assists. Black is fourth in goals and tied for eighth in points.
Freshman goalie
Lukas Swedin leads the league in both save percentage (.926) and goals against average (2.06). Nationally he is T-11
th in GAA and 12
th in save percentage.
As a team, Bentley leads the AHA and is T-14
th nationally in fewest goals allowed per game at 2.45.
The Falcons also lead the league in power play percentage at 21.0%.
Following this weekend's games, Bentley is back on the road to face Robert Morris on Jan. 30-31.
