WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley men's basketball head coach
Jay Lawson is the recipient of the Sam Schoenfeld Sportsmanship Award – the most prestigious award offered by the Collegiate Basketball Officials Association (CBOA).
Per the CBOA,
the award is presented to the college or university, which in the judgment of the CBOA membership, best exemplifies "the highest degree of sportsmanship, character, and ethics among their players, coaches and spectators."
Lawson will be recognized prior to the Falcons' regular-season finale at home against Southern New Hampshire Wednesday, Feb. 25. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Lawson is the third Bentley coach to receive the Schoenfeld Award. Frank Sullivan was a recipient in the 1990-91 season, and Al Shields was Bentley's first recipient during the 1977-78 season.
Lawson is in his 35
th year at the helm of the Bentley men's basketball program. During that time, he has a 664-332 record (.667), which includes the team's 19-7 record this season. Lawson has led the Falcons to 12 NCAA Championship bids, including eight Sweet 16 appearances.
