Bentley and Holy Cross set to square off in AHA Semifinals

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley and Holy Cross square off this weekend in a best of three Atlantic Hockey semifinal series with the winner going on to the championship game next Saturday.

Game one at Bentley Arena gets underway at 7:00 pm. Game two and game three, if necessary, start at 6:00 pm.

Game Notes

The Falcons, the #1 seed and regular season champions, eliminated Mercyhurst in two games in the quarterfinals. The game one, triple overtime victory was the longest game in program history. It was the third longest game in AHA history and the 16th longest game in NCAA history.

Bentley now has 20 wins on the season, giving them at least 20 wins in two straight years.

Holy Cross is the #4 seed and they eliminated the #5 seed RIT in two games. They had to work overtime in both contests, winning the first game 2-1 and the second 5-4.

The other semifinal series pits the #2 seed Sacred Heart against the #3 seed Robert Morris.

The Falcons got the better of the regular season series against Holy Cross with a 2-1-1 record.

On January 2 in Waltham, Bentley won a shootout after the game ended in a 2-2 tie. The following night in Worcester, the Falcons exploded offensively in an 8-3 triumph.

One month later, Bentley won again in Worcester 4-2 on February 6, but Holy Cross was able to emerge victorious the following night in Waltham, 4-1.

These programs have played 92 times but only two of them have occurred in the postseason and both of them were in championship games. Bentley won last year's AHA final in Worcester 6-3 and they also played in the 2006 final that Holy Cross won 5-2.

Both teams come into the series averaging 3.08 goals scored per game, which is the best mark in Atlantic Hockey.

Bentley leads the AHA in fewest goals allowed per game at 2.36, which is tied for 10th nationally. They also have the league's top ranked power play percentage (22.6) and second ranked penalty kill percentage (83.5).

The championship game is next Saturday, March 21 and will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.
