WATERTOWN, Mass. - Senior Marc
Menzione (Darien, Ill./Mahoning Valley Phantoms)
scored a shorthanded goal in the second period as Bentley
University and Holy Cross skated to a 1-1 draw on Senior Night at
Ryan Skating Arena.
With the tie, Bentley finishes the 2009-10 regular season with a
record of 12-18-4 overall and 10-15-3 in Atlantic Hockey play. The
Falcons, who were locked into the eighth seed in the conference
tournament after Friday's game, will play ninth-seeded UConn next
Saturday in Watertown at 7:05 p.m. Bentley went 3-1 against the
Huskies this season, including a 2-0 record at home. Bentley won
the last meeting between the two sides, 4-2 on Feb. 20 at home.
Both goalies on this night, Bentley's Kyle Rank
(Islip, N.Y./Markham Waxers) and Holy Cross' Thomas
Tysowsky, were outstanding. Rank made 34 saves and Tysowsky stopped
15 shots.
Holy Cross' goal came in the first period off the stick of
junior Jordan Cyr with 3:52 remaining in the period. Rank stopped
two shots by Cyr's teammates in quick succession, but Cyr jammed
home the puck off the rebound from the second shot.
The Falcons answered back early in the second period, taking
advantage of a Holy Cross turnover in its own zone. With Bentley
down a man, Holy Cross turned the puck over on a clear to senior
Brendan
Harrison (Scituate, Mass./Walpole Stars.) Harrison
then fed Menzione, who scored his 11th goal of the season at
4:43.
That was the final goal of the game, as both teams had their
chances but were repeatedly turned away by Rank and Tysowsky.
Bentley out shot Holy Cross 3-2 in the extra frame, but either
team seriously threatened to score.
