Top Line Leads Bentley Past AIC 5-2

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Bentley hockey team will go into the semester break with a win after its top line produced four goals in leading the Falcons to a 5-2 victory over AIC Sunday afternoon at the Olympia Ice Center.

Brett Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/Spruce Grove), Andrew Gladiuk (White Rock, B.C./Nanaimo) and Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna) all had huge games in the win. French had a hand in all five goals with one goal himself, and four assists. Gladiuk had a goal and three assists and Switzer had two goals and one assist, while also notching his 100th career point.

French's five points is the most by a Bentley player since Gladiuk had five against Robert Morris on Dec. 7 of last season. Switzer is the 7th player in the program's Division I history to reach the 100 point mark.

Switzer notched his 100th career point in getting the secondary assist on French's opening goal at 12:28. French ripped a wrist shot top shelf from the left wing after one-timing a pass from Gladiuk.

In the second period, the Falcons scored twice in just over a minute to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Switzer lit the lamp at 5:19 on the power play, then senior Alex Kubiak (Tinley Park, Ill./Chicago Steel) tipped in a slap shot by defenseman Matt Maher (Avon, Conn./Westside) in front of the net at 6:29 to give Bentley a three goal lead.

The Yellow Jackets got to within 3-1 on freshman Austin Orszulak's third goal of the series at 8:52, but Bentley finished the period strong with a 5-on-3 goal by Gladiuk, his 14th of the season. After taking a pass from Weinstein, Gladiuk ripped a shot past goalie Alex Murray top shelf to make it 4-1.

Switzer added his second of the day at 12:35 of the third period with Gladiuk and French getting the assists.

Senior goalie Blake Dougherty (East Amherst, N.Y./Bay State) made the start in goal and stopped 17 shots for his third win of the season.

The Falcons will go into the break with a 7-4-2 record in Atlantic Hockey. They are now off until Jan. 9 when they open a series at Robert Morris in Pittsburgh.
