Bentley Blanks Sacred Heart 4-0, Pelino Gets Another Shutout

Box Score

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Bentley got contributions from up and down the lineup, and another shutout from goalie Aidan Pelino (Oakville, Ontario/Chilliwack), in a 4-0 victory over Sacred Heart on Friday night at the JAR.

Pelino made 24 saves for his 2nd shutout in three games, and he's now allowed just one goal over the last 185 minutes. Meanwhile, three of the four lines produced a goal at even-strength, and the power play produced the other goal.

Freshman Matt Riggleman (Milford, Mich./Sioux Falls) got the scoring started towards the end of the 1st period. Drew Callin (Middleton, Wisc./Janesville) pounced on a SHU turnover in its defensive zone, and fed a quick centering pass to Riggleman on the far post, who one-timed it past goalie Brett Magnus to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

The 2nd goal came from freshman Jonathan Desbiens (Montreal, Quebec/West Kelowna) at 9:20 of the 2nd period. Max French (West Kelowna, B.C./West Kelowna) got the goal started with a burst into the the offensive zone, followed by a pass over to defenseman Alexey Solovyev (Moscow, Russia/Lone Star) on the left wing. Solovyev then passed across the ice to a streaking Desbiens, who fired one past Magnus for his 9th goal of the season.

A power play goal by French then gave Bentley a 3-0 lead at 15:03 of the 2nd. A long outlet pass from Solovyev to French setup a two-on-one with him and Kyle Schmidt (Menomonee Falls, Wisc./Sioux City). French fed Schmidt, whose shot was saved by Magnus, but French tapped in the rebound for the goal.

As Pelino closed in on the shutout in the 3rd period, senior Tyler Deresky (Flemington, N.J./Amarillo) added Bentley's 4th goal at 6:10. While Deresky was serving out the end of a penalty, the puck was tied up in Bentley's end. Brett Orr (Elkhorn, Manitoba/Portage) was able to jar it loose just as Deresky sped out of the box, and Orr's pass hit him at the perfect time for a breakaway, which Deresky finished off for his 4th goal of the season.

With the victory, Bentley improved to 10-10-5 in Atlantic Hockey games. That gives them 25 points and has them in 7th place, but just two points out of the top-four. They will go for the sweep of Sacred Heart down in Connecticut tomorrow night.
