Box Score West Point, N.Y. – Third period goals by Will Schlagenhauf (Carmel, Indiana) and Brendan Hamblet (Hopkinton, Mass.) got Bentley to within 4-3, but the Falcons' comeback attempt came up just short and Army West Point held on for a 4-3 victory on Friday night at Tate Rink.
Trailing 4-1 with just over 11 minutes remaining, the Falcons battled back to make it a one goal game with just over eight minutes left, but Army held on to win 4-3 and snap Bentley's three game winning streak.
Schalgenhauf's goal came after a pass by defenseman Luke Orysiuk (Edmonton, Alberta) from the neutral zone was fired off the right boards. Schlagenhauf took the puck off the bounce and streaked down the right wing with a two on one. Schlagenhauf shot from the right face-off dot and beat Army goalie Trevin Kozlowski to the short side for the goal to make it a 4-2 game.
Just over two minutes later, Army was whistled for hooking to send Bentley to the power play. The goal was set up by a pass by junior Michael Zuffante (Bloomingdale, Ill.) from the top of the left face-off circle to Ryner Gorowsky (Lino Lakes, Minn.) down low. Gorowsky then found Hamblet with a quick pass out in front, for a quick shot past Kozlowski for the power play goal with 8:11 remaining.
That goal made it a 4-3 game, but Bentley was unable to get any closer the rest of the way.
In the first period, Bentley's Brendan Walkom (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored with 1:26 left to make it a 1-1 game after the opening period. Walkom swooped in to grab the rebound off a shot by defenseman Charlie Marchand (Calgary, Alberta) from the point and scored on a wrap around.
Army though scored three times in the 2nd period, all in the first nine minutes, to take a 4-1 lead.
These same two teams will be back at it tomorrow night at 7:05 pm as the Falcons will look to earn a series split.
