Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Rene Nunez came away with two huge turnovers in the fourth quarter as the Bentley football team battled Saint Anselm to a 3-0 non-conference win Saturday afternoon.
It was Bentley's first shutout since a 41-0 thumping at Franklin Pierce in October 2022, and it was Saint Anselm's first time getting shutout since the 2017 season.
Three Falcons came away with interceptions against the Hawks:
Nick Pucillo,
Mike DiPlacido, and Nunez.
The Nunez interception happened in the end zone with less than four minutes left in regulation. Shortly after the change of possession,
Isaiah Decias drew a big pass interference call in front of Bentley's sideline, allowing the Falcons to continue to run down the game clock for the victory.
The Hawks looked like they were going to finally break through early in the fourth quarter. Saint Anselm complicated a big 28-yard passing play down its sideline deep inside Falcon territory, but
Andres Andujar tracked down the receiver from behind and punched out the ball. Nunez dove on the loose ball on Bentley's 18-yard line.
Mason Campbell's leg provided the game's only points when he connected on a 34-yard field goal with less than 30 seconds left in the first half.
Vinnie Holmes came up one yard shy of 100 rushing yards, totaling 99 yards on 23 carries.
Rashon Bradford needed only two catches to lead all players in receiving yards (77), and
Pat Damon finished the game with 44 yards on three catches.
Tommy DeMatteo tallied 1.5 sacks in the win, while
Joe Rivers and
Zachary Goodwin each added a sack.
Bentley makes its home – and conference – debut Friday, Sept. 20, with a 7 p.m. kickoff against Southern Connecticut. Before the start of the game, Bentley will celebrate legendary coach Peter Yetten by formally naming the football field in his honor.
