On April 2, 1974, Bentley baseball coach Bob DeFelice wrote Dave Boyajian's name on the lineup card for the first time. That began a four-year period in which the Newton, Massachusetts native was a fixture at second base.

Dave singled to center in his first at-bat, then stole second base. The rains came, forcing a postponement of the Falcons' game with Suffolk, thus negating his first career hit.

He came back the next day, got his first hit that counted (against Holy Cross, for those keeping track), and went on to a very good four-year career, one that saw him hit .309 and average better than a hit per game.

In an interview with the News Tribune, DeFelice recalled "he was an everyday, consistent player. The trademark of his was his perception and knowledge of the game. He had a great mind, which was very unique for a kid coming out of high school, and he was also very talented. Today, you never find anyone that has the knowledge of baseball he had at his age with his ability." Dave finished his rookie season with a solid .288 average.  He led the team in stolen bases with ten and made just five errors in 18 games.

The fine play got even better the next year when he hit a career-high .330 and had a sparkling .463 on base percentage. Dave also established career bests with nine doubles and 26 runs scored.

After hitting .290 as a junior, Dave concluded his career by hitting .327 in 1977, helping the Falcons to a 15-12 record and earning both second-team Division II All-New England and third-team All-East honors. His 33 hits and three homers topped the team in both categories.

Dave finished his career second on Bentley's all-time hit list with 112, trailing only double-play partner and 1992 Hall of Fame inductee Terry McGann. Upon graduation, he also held the career standards for stolen bases and assists.
