A member of the only Bentley men’s soccer team to qualify for the NCAA tournament during the program's first 50 seasons, Terry Carleton has been extremely successful in his professional career, rising to number two at one of the world’s premier advertising agencies (Hill, Holiday), and has been highly instrumental in the growth of what is now Bentley University.

Terry was a member of the Bentley’s Board of Trustees for more than 22 years, and served as Chairman of the Board from 2005-12. During his first two years as Chair, Carleton acted as the college’s President (although without the official title) from May 2005-August 2007, doing so without a salary, and during that time frame, performed all the duties of President, through the Office of the Chairman, including responsibility for the $150+ million operating budget. Prior to becoming Board chair, he chaired the board’s Physical Facilities Sub Committee during a time of major expansion in academic, residential and athletic/recreational facilities.

Terry also chaired the search committee for commissioner of the Northeast-10 at the request of the conference’s President’s Committee.  He has also been involved in numerous other non-profit organizations, including serving on the boards of Caritas Hospital in Norwood, Mass and Newton Country Day School of the Sacred Heart.

Before joining UBS Private Wealth Management, Terry spent about 20 years with Hill, Holiday, Connors, Cosmopoulous, Inc. During his time with Hill Holiday, he was responsible for leading integrated communications programs for many of the firm’s technology clients, including AMD, Bay Networks, Cisco, Great Plains Software, Lotus Development Corporation, NEC Technologies, SONY and Thermo Electron. He was also responsible for management of subsidiary offices in San Francisco (2000-2001) and New York (2006-2009) during periods of management transition. He was also a member of the operating committee that successfully completed the sale of Hill, Holiday to the Interpublic Group of Companies.

Terry was also the managing partner of Headland Ventures, an investment company with holdings in the real estate, hedge fund and traditional investment arenas. Prior to joining Hill, Holliday in 1988, he was a shareholder and Senior Vice President of Kidder, Peabody and Company. He was the firm’s most senior technology analyst, managing other analysts in the firm’s New York and San Francisco offices. He was voted an Institutional All Star (Institutional Investor magazine) on numerous occasions and had extensive involvement in support of his firm’s trading and investment banking operations.

Terry graduated from Bentley in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics (with honors) and an Associate’s Degree in Accounting. He received Bentley’s Edward J. Powers Award in 1977 as the college’s Outstanding Senior Scholar Athlete after playing four seasons of varsity soccer. In 1975, in just the program’s fourth year of existence, he helped the Falcons to their only NCAA Division II tournament berth to date. He finished his career with 32 goals and 20 points for 84 points, which ranks fourth in school history, and owns the school records for points and goals in a game.

Terry led team in scoring each of last three seasons, was a two-time team MVP (1974, 1976), a 1975 Division II All-New England selection and a team co-captain in 1976. He was inducted into the Bentley Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986 and the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 2014.
