Bob Bailey was a part of the beginning of Bentley men's soccer. He is one of four players who played all four years at the start of the men's soccer program (1972-75) and the third from that group to be inducted into the Bentley Hall of Fame, joining former teammates John Jackson and David Lipsett. During those first four seasons, the Falcons had a record of 26-17-10.

As a freshman in 1972, he played on the school's first-ever varsity team, scoring a pair of goals and two assists from his fullback position, The team went 8-3-2 in that inaugural year.

"l remember playing on the baseball field the first few seasons," Bob said. "There were four of us that really knew the game of soccer and the rest of the team was made up of basketball players and others that had never played the game before. At one point that first season, the coach (Detlev Suderow) sent all of the players to me so I could teach them how to kick a soccer ball properly."

During his sophomore year, the defender scored one goal and two assists for the Falcons.

In 1974, Bob had the best offensive season of his career, netting six goals with one assist. He had been moved to the halfback position.

The next year, as a senior, Bob, one of the team's co-captains, helped Bentley do something that has not been repeated to date. The Falcons were selected for the NCAA Division Il Soccer Championships, where they lost in the first round to Adelphi, 2-0. Bailey scored five goals and two assists that season to give him 14 goals and seven assists for a career total of 35 points.

"It was a special feeling to make the NCAA tournament as a senior," Bob said. "It showed how much we had come along since the first season. We played Adelphi, which was ranked nationally, and all of the players were on scholarship compared to no one for us, and only lost 2-0. It was a great game."
