It didn't take long for Lisa Monteleone to show what she could do on the basketball court. In her first collegiate game, she came off the bench to score 17 points, hit 7-of-10 shots and dish off three assists as Bentley opened the 1984-85 season with a 72-41 win over the University of New Haven.

Before the season had reached its midpoint, then-coach Kathy Sanborn had made the Winthrop, Massachusetts native a fixture in her starting lineup. She averaged just under seven points a game and recorded 126 assists en route to winning Rookie of the Year accolades in the Northeast-8 and the ECAC Division II North Region.

Lisa had solid seasons during the next two seasons as Bentley went 20-7 and 24-5. Her numbers each year were almost identical, 10.2 points and 152 assists as a sophomore and 10.8 points and 151 assists in 1987.

She saved her best for last, earning team MVP honors and first-team All-Conference accolades as Bentley set a school record for wins, finishing 28-4, and reached the NCAA Division II Regional final before being stunned by New Haven, 50-49, on a buzzer-beater. Lisa had made a pair of free throws with 18 seconds left to give the Falcons a 49-46 lead, but the defending national champi-ons rallied.

Lisa set a school record with 227 assists that season and finished her career first in assists, second in steals and third in points in Bentley history.

"Lisa's the best pure point guard we've had here during my time in terms of quickness and delivering the ball to the right person at the right time," Barbara Stevens, who coached Lisa during her final two seasons, told the Boston Globe in 1993. "Opponents had to respect her ability to go coast-to-coast. She had tremendous ability to penetrate towards the basket and dish off."

Lisa was named Bentley's Outstanding Female Athlete in 1988.
